Our Club

Welcome to Radcliffe Athletic Club!

We are proud to have been established for 40 years, training, supporting and encouraging runners of all abilities.

At our club you are guaranteed a warm welcome, plenty of support and the opportunity to make friends with like-minded people.

The club is based at Bury Livingwaters Church (Close Methodist), Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, M26 2GB. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7pm-8.30pm.

There is a choice of training sessions, from beginners through to competition racing.

On Mondays there is normally a 5/6.5km run and two 10km runs, based on ability and choice, for adults (age 16 and over). Each group has a run leader to oversee the session and provide support.

On Wednesdays we alternate between a hill session, which leaves from the club, and a track session at Bury Track, Market Street, Bury, BL9 9FX

There are also strength and conditioning sessions at the club at 7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Our juniors (ages eight to 16) meet at the club at 7pm on Mondays.

Radcliffe AC’s Jack Porter makes short work of the Lake Como Half Marathon in Italy

Radcliffe AC’s lightning fast Khama Banda was out at Battersea Park 5k on Saturday, making it look easy as he finished the course in an incredible of 17:39.

Chemane Thomas headed all the way to New York this week, packing her running shoes and hitting the Brooklyn Bridge parkrun, which she finished first in her age category VW40-44 in 24:42.

Another of the club’s speediest runners, Jack Porter, was over in Italy for the Synlab Lake Como Half Marathon on Sunday. He raced round the route along the lake, setting off from Como city centre and finishing at the unique finish line in front of Villa Olmo in 1:26:21.

On the same day, junior Indie was the first girl and the fourth overall in the RunThrough Heaton Park Junior Race, rocketing round the 1.2km course in only 5:28!

Stephen Crowe, who frequently gives his time as a volunteer across many events, was the tail runner for the half marathon distance at Heaton, which he completed in 3:05:28.

Laura Tracey ran the Tatton Yule Yomp 10k, enjoying the atmosphere on this festive trail race, which she finished in 1:18:46.

Members were also up to their eyeballs in mud at the final fixture of the Red Rose Cross Country League in Marl Pits, Rossendale.

For the juniors, results were U11 (1.99KM) B Seth (10:01), Benjamin (TBC)  G Skyler (15:17), Isla (15:23) and Alexandra (19:10). U13 G (2.5k) Lexi (13:55). U15 B(4km) Oliver (26:55).

For the ladies 5km, results were Lucie Tighe (32:34), Karen Doherty (35:34), Laura Aiken (42:03) and Elaine Bailey (45:55)

For the men’s 7.8km, results were Andrew O’Donnell (52:40), Rob Hall (53:45), Mark Garner (57:17), Dominic Parry (1:01:29) and Paul Stevens (1:02:45).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Third female at Loggerheads for Radcliffe AC’s Kath Biddle

Kath Biddle’s latest adventure took place on Saturday, trying out the inaugural Loggerheads Half Marathon. This trail route covered three 7km loops with varied gradient and terrain in Loggerheads Country Park, North Wales. Kath was not only the first in her age category (FV50) but also third female overall, finishing in 2:32:46.

 

Amanda Callan hit the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k on Sunday, bagging a PB in an incredible time of 46:38. This flat out and back course took place in Leeds city centre, starting and finishing on Wellington Street.

 

Although a quiet week of racing as the festive period began, many members hit various parkruns. Alexandra, Moss Side - Mark Garner (20:36), Adrian Ashburn (23:26), Dominic Parry (21:14) and Sara Parry (37:22). Bolton – Kathryn Davies (32:24), Mark Williams (35:42) and Tracy Wroe (55:50). Cardiff – Helen Kay (32:17). Heaton - Mark Taylor (23:32), Sheila Jones (24:08), Lucie Tighe (25:36) and Sheila McNulty (36:56). South Manchester – Khama Banda (18:02), Pendle – John Szubert (28:18), Wetherby – Bev Quinton (42:32), Nostell – Elaine Bailey (38:31), Peel – Rob Lister (24:30), Clarence – Laura Aiken (29:22), Karen Doherty (30:30) and Stephen Crowe (32:11).


Well done also to speedy juniors Seth and Freddie on their 5k PBs at Burrs Community Run this week!

 

Five age category prizes for Radcliffe AC in this year’s Run the Moors

Eight clubs in the North West compete annually over 11 races in the Run the Moors Grand Prix fell championship, ending in a presentation evening this Friday. Five Radcliffe AC members took home prizes this year, having had a fantastic evening celebrating, including Donna Cartwright (3rd LV45), Mark Garner (3rd MV50), Neil Greenhalgh (3rd MV35), Ian Swan (3rd MV45) and Lucie Tighe (3rd LV35).
 
Members headed to Sefton Park, Liverpool on Saturday, braving the mud for the third race in the Red Rose Cross Country League.
 
Junior Seth was first for the club in the U11 2km in a brilliant time of 9:10, followed by Grace (11:31) and Skyler (11:50). Lexi covered the U13 3km in a fantastic 14:03 and Oliver raced round the U15 3km in 15:32.
 
In the women’s 8km event, Karen Doherty completed the course in 47:47, Lisa Riley in 51:50, and Elaine Bailey 55:03.

Turning to the men’s 8km, Andrew O’Donnell finished first for the club in 39:08, followed by Mark Garner (40:12), Dominic Parry (42:36), Stephen Crowe (54:05) and Peter Warr (57:19).
 
Enjoying much sunnier climes, two traveled to the Benidorm 10k, starting at sunset Paseo de la Playa de Levante at sunset. Through the historic centre, seafront promenade, and main city avenues, Rob Lister finished in 50:48 and Wayne Holden in 1:04:31
 
The Wilmslow Festive 10K kick started the festive season on Sunday in the town centre of Wilmslow on scenic country roads, before finishing on Sandy Lane. There were amazing results for the club with may 10k PBs, with Dominic Parry rocketing around the course in 44:52, followed by Daniel Hunt (45:42), Jack Connor (46:09), Adrian Ashburn (48:13), Chemane Thomas (48:19), Michael Kontowtt (48:44), John Szubert (50:39), Kath Biddle (50:34), David Schofield (53:26), Helen Kay (1:05:39), Sara Parry (1:16:53), Bev Quinton (1:16:13) and Andy Wheeler (1:18:42).
