Radcliffe AC delivers another superb event at their annual 5k Multi-Terrain Race

20 July 2025 (by D.Cartwright)

On Wednesday evening, Radcliffe AC held their 5k Multi-Terrain Race with Club Chairperson Donna Cartwright sharing the following:

“We were delighted to host our annual 5km multi-terrain race, starting from Sedgley Park Rugby Club in Whitefield. The scenic route took runners through Philips Park before the tough climb up Heartbreak Hill back to the club.

Nearly 240 runners took part, supported by our fantastic club members who marshaled the course. A brilliant event! I'm so proud to be Chair of a club that can deliver such fantastic events.”

Eight members also took part, with Steven Fawcett the first in for the club in a time of 20:27, followed by Jack Porter (20:29), Michael Kontowtt (22:45), Paul Stevens (23:32), Mark Garner (24:02), Alison Howarth (29:02), Andy Wheeler (42:12) and Ethan Malone, acting as tail runner, in 46:56.

Heaton parkrun this Saturday featured an alternative course due to the Oasis concert, heading up the aptly named ‘angina hill’ three times. Seven Radcliffe members took on this challenging route, as well as other members heading to various parkrun events across the country. Most notably, however, was Bev Quinton, who celebrated her 250th parkrun and 100th at Heaton in a time of 42:29.

On the same day, Ian Swan ran The Snowdon Race, a challenging 10-mile course from Llanberis with a steep ascent to the summit of Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales at 3,560 feet above sea level, and back again, finishing in a brilliant time of 1:53:09, despite the heat.

John Szubert completed the Mossley 10k on Sunday in 1:01:43. This undulating route with around 6km of continuous climb headed out from Upper Mossley, around Lower Mossley and Greenfield with stunning views of the countryside around Mossley and Saddleworth.

Over in Cardiff, Donna Cartwright hit the Dragon Coastal Ultra for a 30-mile race starting from the Heritage Centre in the picturesque bay of Southerndown. In an impressive time of 5:53:26, Cartwright was the third female over the finish line, rounding out a very successful week.
