A large contingent from Radcliffe AC packed up for the weekend to Wales for the Snowdonia Sea2Sky RunThrough Trails races. The two routes took runners from Barmouth Beach, over the seemingly endless Barmouth Bridge and through Snowdonia National Park, with an eye watering 5354 feet of elevation on the 53k ultramarathon distance and 2411 feet on the 25km.
Eight braved the challenging 53km route, with Gary Adkins back to the beach in 6:28:32, followed by Christopher Mihalyi (7:01:27), Donna Cartwright (7:06:49), Ian Swan (7:09:30), Kath Biddle (8:24:11), Simon Foulkes (8:34:18), Andrew O’Donnell (8:34:19) and Dominic Parry (9:52:57).
Nine tackled the 25k distance, with results as follows - Charlene Leyden (4:02:04), Lisa Antrobus (4:02:04), Lucie Tighe (4:02:38), Mark Taylor (4:02:34), Karen Doherty (4:03:20), Laura Aiken (4:03:31), Louise Shield (4:09:21), Caroline Malone (5:07:00) and Tracy Wroe (5:06:59).
Also out racing on Saturday at the Lakeland Trails in Keswick Derwentwater Sport Trail 5k, Eileen Sharman enjoyed the views of Derwentwater, the surrounding peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra and the northern fells, finishing first in her age category (FV70) in a time of 42:53.
Sunday was also a very busy day for the club. Starting and finishing close to The Rock, the Bury 10k is a popular and inclusive run, suitable for all abilities. Sheila Jones continued her category winning streak (1st FV70) in 50:09. Alex Field was the first to finish for the club in 45:41, followed by Rob Hall (46:34), Mark Newman (49:18), Ken Smith (55:04), Katherine Swithenbank (57:23), Charlotte Holden (58:23), Steve Hamer (59:20), Elaine Bailey (1:02:31), Gail Harrison (1:05:19), Grace Williams (1:07:51), Peter Warr (1:08:41) and Andy Smith (1:16:37).
Three also volunteered as pacers for the event with Khama Banda helping runners aiming for 40 minutes (40:09), Adam Wills on 75 minutes (1:13:48), and Stephen Crowe 85 minutes (1:24:57).
Nine juniors also represented the club with Thomas running the 1.5km mini run and Aoife, Erin, Indie, Owen, Poppy, Rowan, Seth and Skyler on the 2.5km junior run.
On the same day, Steven Fawcett led the way at the Blackleach Country Park 5 Mile race, finishing in 31:48, joined by Mark Garner (35:36), Jack Connor (39:31), Alison Howarth (44:25), Ethan Malone (45:33), David Bartlett (49:52), David Schofield (52:37), Helen Kay (57:10), Andy Wheeler (1:02:39) and Sara Parry (1:04:25).
Further afield, John Szubert completed the AJ Bell Great North Run in 2:15:16 with Bev Quinton covering the course in 3:03:19. This half marathon from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields is in its 44th year and hosted an impressive 60,000 participants.
