Radcliffe AC kicked off a busy week at the Close Park Relays on Bank Holiday Monday.
Chairperson for the club, Donna Cartwright, shared the following message: “I’m delighted to say our Close Park Relays on May Day Bank Holiday Monday were a great success. Nearly 200 runners took part in teams of four, each completing two 1-mile laps of the park. It was fantastic to see such a mix of ages and abilities enjoying the event. The atmosphere was great! Thank you to everyone who ran, supported, or came along!”
Individual relay leg results for members included Steven Fawcett (12:54), Andrew O’Donnell (13:17), Christopher Mihalyi (13:38), Alex Field (13:38), Dominic Parry (14:30), Mark Newman (14:34), Rob Lister (14:37), Ethan Malone (15:14), Mark Taylor (15:28), Jack Connor (15:45), Amanda Callan (16:13), Charlene Leyden (16:39), Lisa Antrobus (16:45), Lucie Tighe (16:47), Paula Abernathy (16:54), Sheila Jones (17:01), Katherine Swithenbank (17:13), Sarah Wilson (17:56), Karen Doherty (18:00), Alison Howarth (18:01), Charlotte Holden (18:25), Peter Warr (18:42), Mike Scott (18:46), Eileen Sharman (20:09), Kath Davis (23:05) and Iain Harris (27:34).
Taking first place in the Mixed Junior Team category were Stephen (16:06), Oliver (17:00), Niamh (20:25) and Aoife (23:50).
Meanwhile, Khama Banda took on his second marathon in as many weeks, completing the Milton Keynes Marathon in a personal best of 2:57:09.
On Wednesday, John Szubert attended the Mad Hatters 5 Mile Trail Race, an undulating course around Reddish Vale Country Park, finishing in 46:28.
Adam Wills braved a tough uphill race with a 25% gradient at the Chaffinch Killer Mile in on Thursday in 11:50.
Friday saw Donna Cartwright heading up to the summit of Pin Haw at the Pinhaw Trail Race in Earby, finishing in an impressive 42:08, first LV45.
Paul Stevens also scored a personal best at the Leeds Half Marathon, completing the course in 1:48:27 on Sunday.
Along some of the beautiful canals and trails of the town at the Middlewich 5km, Elaine Bailey took home another age category win (FV65), finishing in 29:13.
18 club members also travelled to Preston on Sunday for the Blacksticks Blue 10k Road Race, the next in the club’s championship. This hilly and scenic annual road race saw a reward of Blacksticks blue cheese for each runner. There were yet more age category wins this week for Paula Abernathy (FV60, 50:33) and Sheila Jones (FV70, 52:32). First in for the club was Mark Garner in 45:51, followed by Mark Taylor (46:52), Dominic Parry (49:41), Laura Aiken (52:32), Kath Biddle (52:57), Chemane Thomas (54:14), Karen Doherty (55:59), Lucie Tighe (56:34), Kathryn Davies (57:30), Steve Hamer (58:25), David Bartlett (59:33), John Szubert (1:01:54), Stephen Crowe (1:03:13), Helen Kay (1:09:54), Andy Wheeler (1:23:04) and Sara Parry (1:24:32).
Junior Skyler also completed the event’s 1k U15 Fun Run.
