An egg-cellent Easter weekend of racing for Radcliffe AC

As many prepare for next week’s Manchester Marathon, this was a quieter week of racing for Radcliffe AC.

On Thursday, John Szubert took on the first of three in the Clowbridge 5k Spring Series. This trail race of two laps round Clowbridge Reservoir off the Pennine Bridleway saw John finish the course in 28:19.

Four members kicked off Good Friday with the Salford 10k Road Race. Starting from Salford Sports Village, 559 runners hit the streets of Salford on this flat two lap course. Dominic Parry was the first in for the club in a speedy time of 46:23, followed by Karen Doherty (52:26), Alison Howarth (53:47) and Tracy Wroe (1:10:08).

On Saturday, six of the club’s juniors excitedly made their way to Rivington for a set of challenging races in the Junior Rivington Pike Fell Race.

In the Under 11 category, a 1.54km route with a 175 foot climb, Indie was the first over the line in 8:27 followed by Seth (8:37), George (9:28) and Benjamin (10:51).

Debuting in the U13 category, Skyler charged up the 321 foot climb with a total distance of 2.24km in 19:05.

Finishing off the final race for the Radcliffe juniors, Oliver braved a 3.1km route in the U15 category with a 519 foot climb in 21:52.

Spurred on by the fantastic efforts from the juniors, three of the club’s senior members headed over to the Rivington Pike Fell Race. This Category B race is one of the oldest and most historic in the country. Although only a shorter distance, this 5.2km route was a challenging 800ft ascent, heading up to Rivington Pike and back. Lucie Tighe finished in 32:37, Ethan Malone in 32:35 and Laura  Aiken in 35:18.

Special mention goes to Louise Shield and Caroline Malone, the club’s Welfare Officer and Ladies Captain respectively. These two never miss an opportunity for a themed costume, wrapping up the weekend’s running along with many other Radcliffe members at the Burrs Community Run on Easter Sunday.
