Big miles were the order of the weekend as once again Radcliffe AC took the weekend by the scruff of the neck!
On Saturday it was all about the trails (and silly shorts) as a large contingency of RAC runners took part in the Village Link. A wonderfully organised 21-mile trail event put on by our friends at The Sunnywood Project. It gives entrants the chance to eat their way through 2,628 feet of hills and local trails.
Chris Mihalyi was first back in 4 hours flat, but others completing the challenge were Mark Taylor, Charlene Leyden, Laura Aiken, Amanda Callen, Emma Horner, Lucie Tighe, Karen Doherty, Kath Davies, Sarah Wilson, Lisa Riley and Lisa Antrobus. Many of these having not done this sort of distance before. Amazing memories, and achievements all round.
Sunday brought RAC entrants at some big events.
At the Wilmslow Running Festival we had 3 entrants in the half marathon. Dominic Parry (1.45.40) Brennan Tighe (1.56) and Alison Howarth (2.11).
Sara Parry was also in action in the 10k finishing in 1.18.39.
In the Fun Run our juniors were making their presence felt. Oliver was first back, finishing 48th out of a field of 240 with a speedy time of 12.45. Not far behind and certainly putting the fun in Fun Run was the trio of Skyler, Benji and Isla (20.44). Special mention to little Grace who, although not quite old enough to be a junior yet certainly raced like one today!
Across in South Yorkshire we were also represented in the Sheffield Half Marathon. An undulating 13-mile slog. Mark Garner finished in 1.39, while Emma Horner, not content with 21 miles on Saturday paced her friend round in 2.13.
Over in the Lakes, our Chairperson Donna Cartwright took part in the Buttermere Trail Race. Finishing the 11.6 mile off-roader with just under 1000 feet of climb in 1.47 claiming 4th lady along the way. Outstanding running!
Finally at the other side of the world the unbelievable Kath Biddle flew our flag at the Depot Park Parkrun in Gainesville, USA. I will expect a few US entries onto the 13 arches!
