There was a good turnout for the annual Windy Hill Fell Race on Sunday morning, with 6 RAC members brave enough to take on the 12 miles of rough terrain in the bitterly cold weather. The route, which takes in Blackstone Edge and part of the Pennine Way, features more than 2000 feet of climbing. Annette McQueen was first for Radcliffe in 1:54:37, followed by Warren Simmens (1:58:53), Christopher Mihalyi (2:01:17), Ian Swan (2:03:19), Jules Davies (2:03:20), and Donna Cartwright (2:07:34).
The weekend also saw round 3 of the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Kenworthy Woods. In the under 11 category (2.3 km), Skyler Parry finished in 15:29, closely followed by Benjamin Tighe in 15:36. Dominic Parry represented the senior men for Radcliffe, completing the 10km route in 54:07. In the senior women category (8km), Laura Aiken was first for Radcliffe in 46:34, followed by Louise Shield (47:05), and Karen Doherty (47:35).
Two Radcliffe runners were at the North Lakes Half Marathon on Sunday, starting and finishing in Cockermouth with an undulating route and amazing views of the Lake District. Mark Garner finished in 1:42:28, with Kath Biddle following in 2:05:24.
Elsewhere, Guy Withington ran his first race as a Radcliffe AC member, finishing the Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno with a time of 51:29. This tough course with a steep initial incline takes runners around the Great Orme with stunning views of Snowdonia, Anglesey, and beyond.
