Hills, Mud and Santa Suits for RAC this Christmas

30 December 2024 (by D.Cartwright)

It was all mud, trails, hills, and Santa suits for Radcliffe AC during Christmas week, and plenty of opportunities to burn those festive calories.

Five Radcliffe runners took on the Santa Dash near Horwich, a 4-mile trail run with Christmas tree medal for all finishers, and awards for the best fancy dress. Christopher Mihalyi was first for Radcliffe and 6th overall in 35:59, followed by Guy Withington (47:30), and Radcliffe’s three French hens: Laura Aiken, Caroline Malone, and Lucie Tighe, finishing together in 1:08:26.

Karen Doherty ran the Edinburgh Santa Dash, also in fancy dress, finishing the muddy 7.5k in 51:29.

On Boxing Day Ian Swan raced the Whinberry Naze Dash Fell Race, a 4-mile race on the moors above Rawtenstall, finishing in a time of 36:51. Another race with a prize for best fancy dress, although criminally not awarded to Mr Swan after parading the moors in his rather dashing Miss Claus outfit.

Also on Boxing Day, Mark Taylor ran the 7-mile Chevin Chase trail race in Otley, finishing the hilly, muddy, multi-terrain race in 56:12.
