Radcliffe athletes embraced the mud this weekend at the infamous Marl Pits Cross Country Race in Rossendale. Known for its muddy ascents, muddier descents, and swamp like conditions, this year’s Marl Pits cross country race formed round 4 of the Red Rose Cross Country league.
Benjamin and Clevon ran the under 11 boys race in 14:59 and 17:17 respectively. In the under 11 girls category, Indie was first for Radcliffe in 30:06, followed by Skyler (31:21), and Poppy (34:56). Oliver completed the under 15 boys race in 25:53.
Seasoned mud-botherer Karen Doherty led the ladies home in 35:02, closely followed by Kathryn Davies (35:11), Lucie Tighe (37:56), Louise Shield (38:23), and Laura Aiken (43:54). Mark Garner was the first Radcliffe man over the finish line in 54:35, followed by Brennan Tighe in 1:01:24.
Alex Field ran Heaton Park half marathon in 1:49:29, to complete his second half marathon race in 7 days. Junior athlete Seth came 11th overall in the junior race with a time of 5:11.
There was a brace of Radcliffers at the Myerscough 10 Miler at the weekend. Rob Shiels completed the distance in 1hr, 12mins, followed by Emma Wolstencroft who claimed a new 10-mile personal best with 1hr, 38min.
Stephen Crowe was amongst other senior and junior Radcliffe runners donning Santa suits in the Blackpool Santa Dash fun run, completing the 4 mile out and back loop in 26:38, with Lucie Tighe in 28:31.
