The Northern Road Relays are held annually by Northern Athletics, and this year’s event at Stanley Park in Blackpool had the usual high calibre of competition. Radcliffe AC was represented by 5 teams of runners, with both ladies and men running legs of 5.6km around the two-lap course in warmer than usual September weather. In the first Radcliffe entry for eight years, many runners got a new personal best for the mile, or the 5km distance.
The first men’s team ran a combined total of 6 Laps of the course in 2:09:21. Results for each lap were: Andrew O’Donnell (20:48), Steven Fawcett (21:07), Mark Taylor (22:50), Khama Banda (20:01), Alex Field (22:31), Ryan Hallworth (22:01). The men’s second team included: Joe Bramwell (25.33), Pete Warr (30.55), Ken Smith (27.14), Steve Crowe (37.40), Brennan Tighe (28.20), Dominic Parry (24.40).
The ladies had 3 teams present, with the first team finishing the 4 laps in 1:42:46. Full results were: Donna Cartwright (24:42), Mia Derbyshire (25:11), Lisa Antrobus (27:47), Emma Horner (25:05). Ladies second team results: Sheila Jones (25:46), Grace Williams (34:37), Chemane Thomas (27:57), Alison Howarth (30:42). Ladies third team results: Sarah Wilson (31:46), Lucie Tighe (31:08), Sara Parry (42:02), Tracy Wroe (34:35).
There was a dynamic duo of Radcliffe men running the Warrington running festival Half Marathon over the weekend, with Andrew O’Donnell finishing the 13.1 miles in 1:40:20, followed closely by Dominic Parry in 1:40:57. Sara Parry ran the 10k distance at Warrington in 1:17:09, and the junior race featured Grace, Skyler and Heidi.
Elsewhere, Louise Shield ran the multi-terrain Thompson Millennium Green 10k in 1:04:50, and Michael Scott completed the Rochdale Harriers 5k Track Time Trial in 36:31.
