RAC out in force for the Bury 10K

16 September 2024 (by D.Cartwright)

Last weekend was the annual Bury 10K, which saw a swarm of yellow and black of RAC, both as runners and as event marshals. Alongside the nineteen Radcliffe AC runners, were a further seventeen volunteer marshals and pacers keeping spirits up on a cold and rainy morning and helping with those all-important personal bests.

First over the line for Radcliffe was Steven Fawcett, who bagged a new personal best for the 10km distance with a time of 39mins, 18secs. Second for Radcliffe, and an amazing first in his age category (M50) was Rob Shiels in 40:46. Also racing the Bury 10K for Radcliffe were Alex Field (42:03), Chris Mihalyi (42:41), Robert Parkinson (43:17), Mia Derbyshire (46:25), Neil Naisbitt (49:25), Jack Connor (49:28), Ken Smith (51:10), Lisa Antrobus (51:14), Mark Foley (52:49), Karen Doherty (53:05), Peter Warr (57:38), Laura Aiken (59:21), Helen Kay (1:03:18), Lucy Tetler (1:04:55), Jen Foley (1:08:43), Ruth Clarke (1:08:43), and Sharon Peterkin (1:11:57).

The juniors were also out in force for the 1.5K and 2.5K races with Benji, George, Oliver, Aoife, Steve, Skyler, Seth, Sienna-Mai, Grace, and Poppy all competing. Oliver came first for the club, and an amazing 4th overall.

Also on Sunday, though away from the pouring rain, Mark Taylor was soaking up the Portuguese sun for the Porto Half Marathon, finishing the 13.1 miles in 1:38:05.

Three Radcliffe runners took part in the Fairhaven Flyer 10k over the weekend, with Wayne Holden bagging a PB in 58:34, followed by clubmates Natalie Hitchen (1:15:31), and Sarah Rushton (1:15:33).

Donna Cartwright carried on the marvellous form for the Radcliffe ladies for the past few weeks, finishing second lady and first L45 at the Clowbridge 5KM trail race.

Elsewhere, Kath Biddle ran the undulating Abersoch Half Marathon, complete with a beach finish in 2:15:57, and Scott Rosevere ran the soggy but beautiful Defeat Delamere 10 Mile Trail Race, in a time of 1:30:14.
