Bumper Bank Holiday of Racing for Radcliffe AC

It was three in a row this bank holiday weekend, as Radcliffe Athletics Club members were on form and en masse in back-to-back running events.

 

On Saturday morning Radcliffe were well represented at Peel Parkrun on the occasion of Mike Scott’s fiftieth Parkrun, with both senior and junior members out in support of Mike’s milestone achievement. Also on Saturday, Paul Stevens ran the Smithy’s Charity 5 Mile Trail Run in Egerton with a time of 49:01, and superstar junior Benji took part in the junior Fun Run version after running at Parkrun the same morning!

 

Sunday saw the eighth round of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix league, at the Pennington Flash 5 Mile Trail Race. A total of twenty-five runners lined up for Radcliffe to take on the undulating trails of Pennington Flash, Greater Manchester’s only National Nature Reserve. First for Radcliffe, and eleventh overall was Andrew O’Donnell, who completed the 5-mile race in 32 minutes, 52 seconds. Ian Swan was third in his age category (MV45) in 34:21, Michael Kontowtt was second V60 in 35:26, and Sheila Jones was second FV65 in 42:17. Also racing were Alex Field (35:45), Christopher Mihalyi (36:54), Dominic Parry (37:14), Dave Rushton (38:32), Neil Greenhalgh (39:04), Mark Williams (40:10), Ethan Malone (41:34), Brennan Tighe (42:00), Mark Garner (43:19), Elaine Bailey (47:52), Emma Wolstencroft (49:40), Wayne Holden (50:12), Lucy Tetler (52:19), Tracy Wroe (52:27), Helen Kay (54:44), Natalie Hitchen (57:48), Michael Scott (58:35), Sara Parry (1:03:13), Andy Wheeler (1:03:30), Bev Quinton (1:08:04), and Iain Harris (1:08:07).

 

Andrew O’Donnell was once again first for the club at the Monton 5 Miler on bank holiday Monday, completing the two laps of Ellesmere Park in 30:43, and Sheila Jones was once again second in her age category, running 40:43. Also racing at Monton were Khama Banda (30:58), Steven Fawcett (31:24), Rob Shiels (33:06), Mark Taylor (33:10), Alex Field (33:36), Dominic Parry (35:37), Mark Garner (36:33), Jack Connor (40:26), Scott Rosevere (40:45), Brennan Tighe (41:09), Kathryn Davies (43:03), Karen Wells (43:42), Sarah Wilson (44:19), Lucie Tighe (47:23), Louise Shield (47:35), Tracy Wroe (50:54), Helen Kay (52:39), Sara Parry (1:01:20), and Andy Wheeler (1:04:44).

 

Elsewhere, Scott Rosevere raced the Lluna Plena Full Moon Night Race in Mahon, Menorca. Scott completed this midweek 5 miler in the Menorcan heat, with a time of 48:57.
