Another Great Turnout for Radcliffe AC

29 July 2024 (by D.Cartwright)

Seventeen senior Radcliffe athletes raced the Black Knight Charge trail race midweek, along with six junior athletes. This undulating 6-mile race takes runners through the scenic surroundings of the Medlock Valley, following tracks and paths of Daisy Nook, including a couple of challenging hill sections.

Radcliffe AC had two age category wins, with Paula Abernethy coming first FV55 in a brilliant time of 56:41, and Sheila Jones coming first F65, despite ‘not enjoying the trails’, in a time of 57:51. We think Sheila secretly loves the trails. There was another personal win for Radcliffe following the race, as running couple Ethan Malone and Charlotte Holden announced their engagement over the weekend, to the delight of the Radcliffe running community.

Also racing Black Knight Charge was Andrew O’Donnell (44:26), Ian Swan (46:09), Paul Stevens (47:46), Mark Taylor (47:48), Neil Greenhalgh (53:52), Chemane Thomas (55:43), Charlene Leyden (57:55), Ethan Malone (58:03), Brennan Tighe (1:00:12), Karen Doherty (1:00:45), Alison Howarth (1:03:45), Louise Shield (1:06:20), Lucie Tighe (1:06:57), Helen Kay (1:09:40), and Michael Scott (1:24:23).

In the junior 2-mile race, Seth was first for Radcliffe in a time of 16:44, followed by Oliver (17:15), Grace (18:53), Aoife (19:20), Benjamin (21:02), and Isaac (33:02).

In another mid-week race, three Radcliffe runners took on the Clowbridge 5k race. Paul Stevens was first back for the club in 26:12, followed by Caroline Malone (31:56) and Louise Shield (31:57).

Further afield, a Radcliffe duo completed the formidable Lakeland 50 at the weekend. Billed as one of the greatest ultra trail challenges in Europe, the Lakeland 50 takes on more than 3000 meters of ascent across 50 miles of demanding Lake District terrain. Kathryn Davies completed the route in 15 hours, 37 mins, 23 secs, followed by Trevor Fishwick in 17:59:40.
