Warren completes 100km Peak District Ultra Challenge

8 July 2024 (by D.Cartwright)

Radcliffe athlete Warren Simmens completed the 100km Peak District Ultra Challenge last week after a sustained period of training following a comeback from injury. Taking on the hard packed trails, undulating all the way through, Warren notes that this would be the ideal race for anyone wanting to try their first 100km distance ultra-marathon, with stunning views and fully stocked pit stops all the way round. Warren completed the remarkable challenge in 14 hours, 58 minutes.

Donna Cartright was also running solo for Radcliffe last week as she took on the Heptonstall Festival Fell Race on the weekend. This is a race of 9.5km and just shy of 500 meters of climbing across rugged moorland, rocky bridleways, and muddy slopes, with a finish described by the race organisers as ‘an almighty uphill struggle.’ Donna did Radcliffe AC proud, finishing 10th lady in a time of 1:15:59.

Capping off a week of tough challenges on the hills, five Radcliffe athletes took on the mighty Lyme Park Half Marathon. Andrew O’Donnell was first back for Radcliffe in a time of 2:03:17, followed by Ian Swan (2:03:26), Emma Horner (2:21:55), Mia Derbyshire (2:22:13) and Marc Taylor (2:32:18).

Elsewhere three Radcliffe runners took part in the Bramhall runners Foodbank 5.5km. Trotting through the trails as a trio were Emma Wolstencroft (41:21), Laura Aiken (41:22), and Caroline Malone (41:24).
