More age category wins for Radcliffe AC, in a racing week that was here, there, and everywhere.10 June 2024 (by D.Cartwright) |
Last weekend was the fifth round of the Run The Moors series of fell races at the Knowl Hill Fell Race. This challenging 6-mile route includes ‘an all-fours scramble up the moors’ to reach the summit of Knowl Hill, before a fast and technical descent back along the reservoirs. Mark Garner was first down the hill for the club in a time of 1 hour, 5 mins, 23 secs, followed by Neil Greenhalgh in 1:10:36, Katherine Davies, who came first in her age category with a time of 1:15:54, Karen Doherty in 1:18:35, and Ethan Malone in 1:24:36.
Also on the fells last week, Ian Swan represented Radcliffe AC at the Leo Pollard Memorial Fell Race on Thursday night, a 10km route that takes in Rivington Pike, 2 Lads and Winter Hill and includes a total of 1280 ft of elevation. Despite falling in a bog midway through this challenging moorland race, Ian came 11th overall in a time of 53.44.
It was a yellow and black takeover at the Dave Telford Dunham Massey 5k in midweek, with a total of sixteen Radcliffers representing the club. Gary Adkins was first home for Radcliffe in 18:15, also finishing 4th in his age category (M40) and 23rd overall. Also finishing the 5km race in that aspirational sub-20 minutes zone was Andrew O’Donnell, a runner who is going from strength to strength, with a new personal best of 19:30. Sheila Jones was the first female runner over the line for Radcliffe in a time of 23:23, a result that also saw Sheila finish first in her age category (F65).
Also running at Dunham Massey for Radcliffe were Dominic Parry (21:04), Ethan Malone (23:47), Paul Stevens (24:48), Brennan Tighe (25:06), Katherine Biddle (25:13), Karen Doherty (26:12), Laura Aiken (27:42), Sarah Wilson (28:05), Steve Crowe (28:53), Caroline Malone (30:42), Bev Quinton (36:57), Iain Harris (37:30), and Michael Scott in 39:44.
Elsewhere, Laura Aiken completed her first official half marathon on the weekend, at the Lakeland Trails Coniston Half. Laura completed the ‘bumpy’ scenic route in a time of 2 hours, 52 mins, 51 secs.
Finally, a merry band of Radcliffers were on the tour bus to Morcombe at the weekend for a Parkrun extravaganza, which saw some significant milestones being met. Dave Rushton was there for his 100th Parkrun, and Sara Parry for her 200th.
