Testing conditions at Stockport 10

11 December 2023 (by D.Cartwright)

Bad weather didn’t dampen the performances of Radcliffe Athletic Club members at the testing Stockport 10 Mile Race.

Nine of them completed Sunday’s hilly course which was the final fixture in the club’s road and trail championship.

In wet conditions, Mark Garner led home the RAC contingent in 1:13:55 ahead of Adam Wills in 1:17:58. Martin Archer set a personal best of 1:22:49 in his first 10-mile race and Dominic Parry ran 1:26:55.

Sheila Jones was first FV65 in 1:28:19 while Chemane Golding was pleased with her time of 1:35:00 as she continues to build her fitness after an injury. Also running were Kath Davies (1:35:35), Charlotte Holden (1:47:36) and Helen Kay (1:51:57).

Katherine Biddle continued to rack up the miles – both running and travelling – when she faced testing weather conditions of a different kind at the Malaga Marathon in Spain. She described the conditions as “scorching”, and was also running with some injury niggles, after completing her second marathon in a fortnight in 5:00:34.

It was a family affair at Heaton Park on Sunday when new member Lucie Tighe completed the Run Heaton 10k in 59:06 while son Benjamin finished the 0.7-mile junior race in 5:04.

Husband Brennan Tighe was also running in Heaton Park the day before when he was among the RAC members who got into the Christmas spirit at a Santa-themed parkrun. Some dressed up in festive outfits, and times were: Dominic Parry (24:27) Brennan Tighe (27:29), Helen Kay (38:56), junior Skyler Parry (first JW10 39:43), Sara Parry (40:39) and Lucie Tighe (51:32 walking).

Stephen Crowe and Bev Quinton were on their parkrun travels again, running 31:07 and 45:51 respectively at Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire and Worden in Leyland.
