Two fly the flag for Radcliffe at Berlin Marathon

Two runners flew the flag for Radcliffe Athletic Club at the prestigious Berlin Marathon in Germany.

Gary Adkins completed the 26.2 miles in a speedy 2:57:25, just 15 seconds outside his personal best, while Simon Foulkes finished in an impressive 3:27:45.

Closer to home, a trio of Radcliffe runners were in action over 13.1 miles at Warrington Half Marathon. Helen Kay was the club’s first finisher in 2:26:23, Stephen Crowe clocked 2:29:12 and Kath Biddle ran 2:29:13.

The event was part of Warrington Running Festival, the world’s first free running festival which aimed to improve people’s physical and mental health through running. It also included a 10k race where Elaine Bailey ran 1:03:08 and Kevin Dewhurst finished in 1:06:08.

Club chairwoman Donna Cartwright was back to winning ways in her first race since suffering a quad injury. She was first LV40, the sixth woman and an impressive 21st overall at the Lakeland Trails 10k in Carmel.

She was pleased with her performance on the course which had thick mud in parts and around 700ft of climbing.

Radcliffe veterans once again picked up prizes when the club had a fantastic turnout at the Worsley Woods Five Mile Trail Race. It was the penultimate fixture in the Central Lancashire Grand Prix which is contested by local clubs, and points were also up for grabs in Radcliffe’s road and trail championship.

Craig Norman was 26th in 33:36, ahead of Ian Swan (35:24), Mia Derbyshire (36:57), Mark Garner (37:21), Adam Wills (37:58) and Mark Williams (39:32).

Sheila Jones was first V65 in 41:34 and Charlene Leyden ran 41:35, Emma Horner (42:05), Karen Wells (42:28), Paula Abernethy (42:44), Dominic Parry (43:07), David Bartlett (43:06), Alison Howarth (46:03).Peter Warr (48:15) on his birthday, Lucy Tetler (51:17), Tracy Wroe (51:46) and Natalie Hitchen (56:28).

Sheila McNulty clocked 56:38 to claim first FV75 and Mike Scott ran 1:08:51.

Several members took part in the inaugural 5k Clarence parkrun in Bury. Mark Garner was 14th in 22:22  followed by Lucy Tetler in 32:06), Caroline Malone (32:22) and Elaine Bailey (first VW65 34:51).Oliver Swan ran 35:12 in his first 5k along with dad, Ian. Bev Quinton clocked 40:34 and Deborah Warrington finished in 40:35.

Marc Taylor kicked off his wedding day by running 21:27 at Heaton parkrun while his best man, Ethan Malone, clocked 25:19. Also at Heaton Park were junior Robbie Parkinson (21:56), Sheila Jones (first VW65 23:36) and Karen Wells (24:57).
