Great day at the races for RAC23 July 2023 (by D.Cartwright) |
It was a successful day at the races when three Radcliffe Athletic Club members headed to the home of the Grand National steeplechase.
They were among the 360 runners who completed Sunday’s Run Aintree 5k at the home of the world-famous race.
Iain Harris was first VM70 in 38:12, Bev Quinton was second VW55 in 38:09 while Mike Scott completed the sweep of the podium places by claiming third VM65 in 38:16.
Ken Smith completed the Tolkien Trail 10k in Clitheroe on Sunday. He followed in J.R.R. Tolkien's footsteps at the race which takes in the enchanting woods and epic scenery that inspired the stories of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit".
The popular race starts at Stonyhurst College where Tolkien wrote parts of his epic fantasy adventure. Smith ran 1:06:36 on the “lovely course” and was rewarded with a “Lord of the Rings”-themed medal.
Meanwhile Andy Wheeler contended with rain, muddy bits and puddles when he clocked 35:56 at the midweek Whitworth Whippets 5k at Cowm Reservoir.
Heavy rain didn’t dampen Emma Wolstencroft’s spirits when she kicked off her 50th birthday celebrations by completing her 50th parkrun, running 29:22 at a soggy Heaton Park.
