A 10k with a difference didn’t prove a bridge too far for Radcliffe Athletic Club members.
Five completed the Jubilee Bridge 10k, which starts and finishes on the Grade II listed Silver Jubilee Bridge which spans the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal.
Ian Swan was the club’s first finisher, clocking 43:19 on the closed roads of Runcorn, just ahead of John Gibbs in 43:22. In scorching weather, Helen Kay ran 59:47, followed by Tracy Wroe in 1:02:26 and Bev Quinton in 1:19:43.
Three members took on the hills, with Donna Cartwright finishing seventh lady at a hot Austwick Amble Fell Race in the Yorkshire Dales. She completed the 8.1-mile course with 1,198ft of climbing in 1:12:00.
In his first race after badly spraining his ankle, Lee Turner ran 1:15:00 at the 7.3-mile Leo Pollard Memorial Fell Race in Rivington which has 1,526ft of ascent. Meanwhile, Mark Garner covered the 6.3 miles and 1,299ft of ascent at the local Edenfield Fell Race in 1:06:02.
Junior Bethan Champion proved that she likes to be beside the seaside, running 22:38 at the Abersoch 3k beach race in Wales.
Further afield, Katherine Biddle notched up two parkruns in two different countries, running 28:22 in the regular Saturday morning Leinpfad parkrun in Germany and 27:10 at the special Whit Monday event in Katpondonske in the Netherlands.
Plenty of members also ran parkruns in the UK, with Rob Shiels finishing seventh at Bolton in 21:09, followed by Kath Davies (28:14) and Elaine Bailey (31:50).
Gary Adkins ran 18:30 to come fifth at Heaton parkrun and also running were Mark Garner (21:51), Adam Wills (22:36), Martin Archer (23:54 pb), Emma Wolstencroft (28:40) and Andy Wheeler (37:50).
