Radcliffe runners make the headlines at Media City

Podium places and tough climbs were on the cards for Radcliffe AC runners who headed to the city and the hills for two contrasting club championship races.

RAC had a great turnout at the midweek Run Media City 5k in Salford, part of the club’s road and trail championship.

Steven Fawcett was first MV45 and tenth overall in a pacy 20:50 and Adam Wills clocked 21:21 to claim first MV40.

The next Radcliffe runner home was Ethan Malone in 23:38 followed by Amanda Callan who was third FV40 in 23:47 and Charlotte Holden in 25:58. The great performances continued with Stephen Crowe who was second MV60 in 27:11, and other results were: Helen Kay (second FV50 28:22), Caroline Malone (third FV50 29:34), Zoe Dewhurst (33:51), Iain Harris (first MV70 35:54), Mike Scott (2nd MV65 in 37.38) and Bev Quinton (second FV55 38:30).

Meanwhile, Kevin Dewhurst clocked 1:04:03 in the Run Media City 10k on the same night.

A trio of Radcliffe runners took on tough climbs at the 7.3-mile Shepherd’s Crook Fell Race in Rossendale, part of the club’s fell championship. The course has around 1,476 ft of climbing and is also a fixture in the Run The Moors Fell Grand Prix which is contested by local clubs.

Mark Garner was an impressive 42nd in 1:24:51. The wins continued when Kath Davies was first WV60 in 1:39:41, finishing 18 seconds ahead of teammate Karen Doherty.

Katherine Biddle flew the flag for RAC in The Netherlands when she completed Zuiderpark parkrun in 27:17.

Closer to home, members also clocked great times at a variety of parkruns. The biggest contingent was at Heaton Park where Marc Taylor ran 19:03 followed by Mark Garner (20:50), Mark Taylor (21:20), Ethan Malone (23:58), Charlotte Holden (26:44) and Martin Archer (29:00) who was pacing a friend.

Rob Shiels was a fantastic sixth at Bolton Parkrun in 21:00 and other times were: Mark Williams (26:30), David Schofield (31:06) and Natalie Hitchen (35:37).
