Long distance successes for RAC13 March 2023 (by D.Cartwright) |
Radcliffe runners racked up the miles when they took on long distances over different terrains at the weekend.
Three members took part in the popular Two Crosses Challenge which started and finished in Greenmount and covered the reservoirs and moors of the Western Pennines.
Organised by the East Lancashire Long Distance Walkers Association, runners and walkers could complete either a 17 or 25-mile route which both took in the Roman Cross at Affetside and Pilgrim’s Cross on Holcombe Moor.
They enjoyed bright conditions, but plenty of mud and very wet conditions underfoot – especially crossing the aptly named Wet Moss leading to Bull Hill.
Lee Cooper and Kris Lee completed the 25-mile course in six hours and 23 minutes while Karen Doherty notched up her longest run when she completed the 17-mile route in four hours and 22 minutes.
Helen Kay and Tracy Wroe laced up their road shoes for the Trimpell 20. The 20-mile race through the historic city of Lancaster and the stunning Lune Valley countryside is popular with people training for spring marathons.
The pair both finished in 4:19:39, ahead of the Manchester Marathon on April 16 for Kay and the London Marathon a week later for Wroe.
Rob Shiels was 19th out of 513 runners, and third V45, in 40:00 at Tatton 10k. Meanwhile, at the Chester 10k, Emma Wolstencroft was rewarded with a great “goodie bag” and medal after running 59:06.
Alison Howarth took on the tough 9k Roddlesworth Roller Trail Race in Chorley. She ran 56:07 on the undulating course through the woods above Abbey Village.
Four Radcliffe representatives were among the runners at the inaugural parkrun at Philips Park in Manchester. Peter Hunter was 27th in 22:13 followed by Stephen Crowe (27:47), Helen Kay (31:40) and Bev Quinton (38:06)
Peter Warr ran 29:51 in his first parkrun in three years when he headed to Heaton Park. He was joined by Steven Fawcett who clocked 23:45 while an injured Sheila Jones finished in 49:40.
Parkrun results from elsewhere: Bolton – Michael Scott (47:35) and Natalie Hitchen, who was walking and running (48:09); Dishley in Loughborough – Elaine Bailey (28:59); Peel – Mike Kontowtt (20:48) and Tracy Wroe (31:56); Wythenshawe – Kathryn Biddle (26:15).
