Marathon success for canal duo16 January 2023 (by D.Cartwright) |
TWO Radcliffe runners completed a scenic marathon along the canal towpaths of Yorkshire.
Annette McQueen and Warren Simmens ran the Skipton Skedaddle, a trail marathon which starts in Skipton before following the canal towpath to Saltaire.
McQueen was the third woman home in 4:06:39 and Simmens ran 4:49:19 on the flat and beautiful route.
Over the ‘roses’ border, Rob Shiels continued his flying form with an impressive 12th place out of 296 runners at a muddy East Lancashire Hospice 10k in Great Harwood. He clocked 41:55 – a day after running 22:10 at the 5k Heaton parkrun.
Several other Radcliffe runners were also in action at various parkruns. Sheila Jones again claimed the fastest age graded time – the best time when age is taken into account – with a run on 23:47. She was first VW65, and also running were: Ian Swan (22:10), Mark Taylor (23:03) and Emma Wolstencroft (29:53).
Results from other parkruns: Bolton – Mark Williams (25:10), Caroline Malone (35:51) and Cheryl Gallagher (38:32); Brighouse – Chris Paxton (fifth in 19:33) and Peter Hunter (23:46); Oldham – Helen Kay (31:54) and Bev Quinton (39:44); Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields – Stephen Crowe (28:56); Worsley Woods – Alison Howarth (27:58) and Tracy Wroe (33:21); York – Elaine Bailey (29:29).
