Radcliffe Athletic Club’s Mark Williams picked up a win at the popular Windmill Remembrance Day 10k in Lytham St Annes.
He was one of six RAC members who took part in Sunday’s race which starts at the Windmill on Lytham Green.
Williams was first VM55 in 44:27 on the fast and flat seafront course, a day after representing the club at cross country! A two-minute silence was held before the start of the race, and also running were Tracy Wroe (1:04:22), Natalie Hitchen (1:11:32), Sarah Rushton (1:15:22), Debi Warrington (1:15:41) and Bev Quinton (1:15:42).
Radcliffe runners posted good times at the second fixture of the Red Rose Cross Country League. They enjoyed fine weather when they took on the flat and fast courses at Townley Park in Burnley.
Donna Cartwright clocked 23:53 to secure a superb 29th place out of 122 runners in the ladies’ race. Also running were Mia Derbyshire (24:44), Kathryn Davies (28:09), Karen Doherty (28:25) and Elaine Bailey (29:19). The ladies’ team was 12th.
Men over 60 can also run in the ladies’ race and Andy Wheeler clocked 38:50.
In the longer men’s race, Craig Norman was 58th out of a strong field of 196 runners in 37:15. He was followed by Mark Williams (42:07) and Ian Swan (42:42).
Alison Howarth travelled to the picturesque Cistercian abbey ruins near Leeds for the Kirkstall Abbey Trail Running Festival. She ran 1:25:00 in the festival’s 8.8-mile race.
Saturday morning was again busy for RAC runners who were in action at a variety of parkruns. Rob Shiels was 19th at Heaton Park in 19:53, Sheila Jones ran 23:27 to finish VW65 and junior Robbie Parkinson ran 24:11.
Paula Abernethy travelled to Lanark Moor in Scotland where she was second woman and 1st VW55 in 27:01. At the other end of the country Cheryl Gallagher ran 35:04 at Bushy Park in London, the home of the first parkrun.
Parkrun tourist Vince Ashton was also on his travels again. He clocked 1:02:43 as the volunteer tail walker at Dewsbury, his 103rd different parkrun location and his 165th stint as a volunteer.
Chris Paxton was a super 7th at Haigh Woodland in 20:40 and results from elsewhere were: Northwich – Bev Quinton (38:17); Pavillion Gardens – Stephen Crowe (30:13); Peel – Mike Kontowtt (21:13); Worsley Woods – Tracy Wroe (31:40).
