Fell championship success for RAC

6 November 2022 (by D.Cartwright)

Two Radcliffe Athletic Club athletes picked up awards at the Run The Moors Fell Grand Prix presentation.

Craig Norman and John Gibbs were second and third MV40 respectively in the competition, which is contested over 11 fell races of various distances and difficulties.

Eight clubs take part, and runners had to complete at least five races to qualify for a prize.

More than 90 people attended the prizegiving, which was organised by Radcliffe AC and held at St Mary’s Social club. The awards were handed out by guest speaker Darren Fishwick, who is a prolific fell runner.

Norman and Gibbs finished a fantastic 12th and 13th overall in the championship. Both the men’s and ladies’ teams were sixth.

The wins continued for RAC athletes at the Lancaster Half Marathon where Paula Abernethy was first FV55 in 1:48:50 and Sheila Jones was first FV65 in 1:52:55. Tracy Wroe and Helen Kay both ran 2:34:48.

Meanwhile, Adam Wills clocked 1:47:08 in the Tatton Half Marathon, his first race in club colours.

The club was well represented at a variety of parkruns, with the biggest turnout at Heaton Park where Rob Shiels was 21st in 19:59. Also running were: Simon Foulkes (20:38), Ian Swan (23:26), Neil Greenhalgh (23:27), Sheila Jones (first VW65 24:08), junior Robbie Parkinson (24:55) and Helen Kay (29:59).
