Wet weather didn't rain on the RAC parade

24 October 2022 (by D.Cartwright)

Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the eight Radcliffe Athletic Club members who posted great times in the last race of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix.

They splashed through the puddles and squelched through the mud at the popular Gin Pit Five Mile Trail Race in Tyldesley, the final fixture of the ten-race series which is contested by local clubs.

Mike Kontowtt was a superb 20th out of 173 runners, and second VM55, in 36:10 while Mark Williams was third VM55 in 37:05.

Steven Fawcett ran 38:04 and Sheila Jones notched up her latest age group win, claiming first VW65 in 44:00. Also running were: Karen Doherty (47:39), Elaine Bailey (49:08), Natalie Hitchen (56:57) and Andy Wheeler (58:54).

Members were out en masse to help Tracy Wroe celebrate her 100th parkrun. She ran 31:32 at Peel, and also taking part were: Paula Abernethy (first VW55 23:19), Mike Kontowtt (23:28), Sheila Jones (first VW65 23:58), Elaine Bailey (first VW60 27:50), Emma Wolstencroft (28:00), Helen Kay (29:21), Jackie Faith (32:00) and Iain Harris (39:09). Michael Scott, who is returning to fitness, ran/walked the course in 53:32 with Bev Quinton.

There was another milestone at Bolton, where Andy Wheeler clocked 37:07 in his 40th parkrun. He was joined by Mark Williams (24:27) and Paul Benson (26:26).

Junior Robbie Parkinson didn’t let being on holiday stop him from running an impressive 22:48 to finish first JM15-17 at the Riverside event at Chester-Le-Street, while fellow junior Lucas Paxton clocked a speedy 27:52 with his dad Chris at Telford.

Rob Shiels was second at Chadderton Hall in 21:29, Rob Lister was third VM55 at Morecambe Prom and Cheryl Gallagher ran 48:34 at Stretford.
