Radcliffe Athletic Club’s Donna Cartwright put in a superb performance to be the first woman across the line in the Lakeland Trails 14k.

In hot and humid conditions, she ran to victory in the Lakeland Trails 14k in 1:23:00.

Cartwright was also 14th overall out of 208 runners in the race which started and finished in Ambleside and featured great climbs and views.

Five Radcliffe runners were also in action at the Wilmslow 10k.

Jenny Yates continued her great form when she was third FVet 55 in the inaugural Wilmslow Summer 10k.

She crossed the line in 43:21 followed by Stephen Crowe in 56:34 and Emma Wolstencroft in 58:19. Mike Scott and Bev Quinton both ran 1:10:41.

Young RAC member Matthew Pullen, who has been diagnosed with spinal cancer, is raising money for the charity Move Against Cancer during his radiotherapy.

The 18-year-old aims to walk 10,000 steps to raise money for the cause which has supported him mentally and physically.

Matthew was diagnosed with a brain tumour for the second time in 2020, and was admitted to hospital eight years to the day since the death of his mum who lost her fight with cancer. He underwent brain surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy after previously beating the disease he was three.

Matthew has been told that his tumour is terminal and said: “Around a year ago I had brain surgery for what I know is terminal.

“Unfortunately, I found out after having back pain and pins and needles in my legs and feet that the cancer had spread down my spine to my mid-back. I’m on steroids to stop the swelling and I’m gong to be facing more radiotherapy.

“I know this isn’t good news but I’m confident they can treat this. Surgery isn’t an option but life is; I’ll continue doing what I do and keep living.

“Throughout my spinal radiotherapy I’m walking 10,000 steps for @movecharity who have supported me both physically and mentally throughout my cancer diagnosis. I know this may seem stupid but I’ve got to keep moving and want to raise funds for such a vital cause.?
