England’s largest body of water proved no match for Radcliffe Athletic Club’s Neil Greenhalgh and Simon Foulkes.
They took on The Lap ultra marathon, a 47-mile clockwise lap of Lake Windermere with around 7,500ft of climbing.
Run on picturesque and challenging trails, the pair completed the race in 13:27:57 and received locally-made wooden medals.
Foulkes has gone from “couch to ultra marathon” in two years and said: “My feet are blitzed, I feel like I’ve been run over by a steam roller but it was worth every minute!”
Elsewhere, Emma Wolstencroft described the conditions as “hot, humid and hilly” in her first half-marathon. She ran a fantastic 2:15:33 in the Chester Half Marathon.
Radcliffe runners were once again in action at a variety of parkruns. At Heaton Park, Rob Shiels was 18th in 19:23, Robbie Parkinson was third JM11-14 in 23:38, Alison Howarth ran 26:15, Helen Kay 31:55 and Iain Harris 37:18.
In the club’s other local parkrun, Bolton, Kathryn Davies ran 29:27 and Natalie Hitchen 32:29.
Sheila Jones was first VW65 in 22:56 at Alexandra parkrun in Moss Side while Rob Lister ran 20:34 to finish 6th at Myrtle parkrun in Bingley. Results from elsewhere were: Bramley: Vince Ashton (33:17); Chadderton Hall: Stephen Crowe (30:49) and Bev Quinton (40:03); Fell Foot in the Lake District: Elaine Bailey (third VW60 in 28:25); Stamford Park, Stalybridge: Cheryl Gallagher (34:26); Worsley Woods: Chris Paxton (14th in 20:23), Andy Haines (21:08) and Peter Hunter (21:55).
