Kath Davies was up to the challenge when she ran what is reputedly the UK’s toughest road half marathon.
The Radcliffe Athletic Club member was fourth VW55 in 2:17:31 at the picturesque but very challenging Hendon Brook Race in Nelson, Lancashire. Although billed as a half marathon, the course is actually 13.5 miles with more than 2,000ft of ascent.
Several RAC runners enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere at the popular Bolton 5k Night Run. Part of the Ironman UK weekend, the course started and finished in the town centre and took in Queen’s Park.
With the emphasis on fun, the race was not timed – but that didn’t stop Radcliffe members setting their watches and recording some great times! Taking part were Stephen Crowe, Natalie Hitchen, Craig Norman, Bev Quinton, Sarah Rushton, Craig Ward, Debi Warrington and Tracy Wroe.
Junior Sophie Scholes took part in the 1.5k Ironkids race while teammate Carreghen Spence finished fourth in her first track race. Representing Little Lever School, Spence came fourth in just under three minutes the 800m at the Bolton Schools’ Athletics Competition.
Spence was among the juniors who also took part in their first training session with the seniors at Bury Athletics Track.
Also on the track, Alex Pullan ran a great 5:15:17 in the open 1500m at Trafford AC.
Radcliffe runners were once again out in force at the Saturday morning parkruns, visiting a range of locations.
At Heaton Park, Sheila Jones was first WV65 in 23:03. Also running were Emma Wolstencroft (28:13 pb), Stephen Crowe (29:39), Bev Quinton (38:55 ) and Tracy Wroe (38:55).
Results from other parkruns were: Bolton – Paul Benson (25:33) and Jackie Faith (32:56); Peel – Mike Kontowtt (21:03); Sale Water – Chris Paxton (20:43), Ian Swan (22:26) and Peter Hunter (23:33).
