The South Pennines terrain put down a real challenge to four Radcliffe Athletic Club members.

They represented RAC at the tough Beater Clough Fell Race, the seventh fixture in the Run The Moors Fell Grand Prix which is contested by local clubs.

John Gibbs was a fantastic tenth on the testing 6.8-mile course with 2,001 ft of ascent above Portsmouth on the Yorkshire/Lancashire Border. The varied terrain included very steep climbs and descents right from the off, with Gibbs clocking 1:11:22.

On a warm midweek evening, Neil Greenhalgh was 31st in 1:28:17 while Karen Doherty was pleased with her time of 1:51.30 in her longest fell race to date.

Craig Norman was well up the field in 15th place, and had some hard climbing under his belt, when he retired shortly before the halfway point after taking the wrong route.

Members once again posted great performances at the popular 5k parkruns, visiting a variety of locations. Alex Pullan was ninth at Blyth Links in a new parkrun personal best of 19:12.

There were also ninth places for Peter Hunter in 22:02 at Halifax and Chris Paxton in 20:03 at Sewerby. Also at Sewerby, Ian Swan was 14th in 21:17 while Ron Shiels ran 19:32 to finish tenth at Monsal Trail.

Helen Kay was the sixth woman, and second WV50, in 29:13 at Beckton parkrun in London. Results from elsewhere: Alderley Park – Stephen Crowe (30:14), Cheryl Gallagher (34:12) and Bev Quinton (36:21);); Bolton – Rob Lister (25:36); Heaton Park – Nick Barnes (28:43); Caroline Malone – Peel (28:34); Neil Greenhalgh -Worsley Woods (20:14).
