Radcliffe Athletic Club’s Rob Shiels was in fine form when he clocked 2:22:14 at the Trimpell 20 Mile Race.
He finished 32nd out of a field of 255 in the race which takes in the historic city of Lancaster and the stunning Lune Valley. It is popular with those training for a marathon and Shiels ran it as part of his preparation for next month’s Blackpool Marathon.
David Schofield was also in action over a longer distance, running 2:23:01 at the Fleetwood Half Marathon. His performance was all the more impressive coming a week after he walked the Lake District’s iconic Bob Graham round, which covers 42 peaks and around 66 miles.
Meanwhile, Elaine Bailey was seventh F60 in 57:11 at the Alderley Edge Bypass 10k, a fast course that gives runners the opportunity to run the bypass when it is closed to traffic.
Radcliffe AC had a strong turnout at the popular 5k parkruns. Jenny Yates was the fourth woman in 21:59 at the Heaton Park run followed by Sheila Jones who was first F65 in 23:38. Also running were Peter Hunter (24:17), Steve Hamer (24:26), Helen Sandiford (32:49), Jen Entwistle (34:54), Bev Quinton (36:46) and Mike Scott (36:47).
Vince Ashton ran 37:17 at Bolton Parkrun before taking part in the Manchester MS Walk in the city centre. Also at Bolton parkrun were Mark Wolfenden who ran 27:21, Kath Davies (27:47), Elaine Bailey (32:55) and Natalie Hitchen (58:45) who was recovering from a bad ankle sprain.
Craig Ward and Alison Howarth ran 27:31 and 30:32 respectively at Worsley Woods parkrun.
